Regular and careful completion of homework is regarded by the school as essential to improve standards for all children.
We appreciate the time and effort that parents give in order to make sure that homework is completed. If you ever have any queries about the work that your child should be doing at home, then please contact the class teacher.
All children are expected to read at home each evening. Children in Owls and Eagles will have spellings to learn and will be expected to learn their multiplication tables.
Lunchtime
The majority of children stay in school over lunch times and have two options:
A hot meal, currently £1.65 per day to be paid weekly on a Monday. Please send money or a cheque made payable to Leicestershire County Council, to school in a clearly marked envelope.
A packed lunch can be brought in from home. We would like to encourage a more healthy selection of content if possible. Please ensure that this contains no glass containers and that any drinks are not fizzy. Water is provided.
Free School Meals
Children of parents in receipt of Family Income Support are entitled to free school meals. Applications should be made to the Director of Education, County Hall, Leicester.
School takes part in the free fruit for schools initiative and all Key Stage 1 pupils receive a free piece of fruit every day.
Older children are entitled to bring in a healthy snack for snack time, crisps, sweets and chocolate are not allowed.
Milk is available to children under 5 years old. All children are encouraged to bring water to school in a plastic drinking bottle labeled with their name.
Medicines, First Aid, Health & Safety
We can not be responsible for administering medicines to children, except for serious, long term conditions such as asthma and epilepsy. If your child should need access to an inhaler, or other long term medication, please inform the school and sign a consent form so that we can ensure your child has the correct access to the required medication.
A number of our staff are trained first-aiders and are able to give assistance if a child is in difficulty. You will be asked to fill in a contact form when your child starts school. This will give us details of contact numbers to get in touch with in case of an emergency. It is very important that these are kept up to date at all times.
If your child receives a bang on the head, we will monitor the situation and you will be informed.
The school has a full Health and Safety Policy in line with Local Education Authority guidelines. A Governor carries out regular risk assessments to ensure that a safe environment is provided for children, staff and visitors to the school.
A key pad security system oversees the main entrance to the classroom areas and school office. While parents are, of course, always welcome at the school, we do ask that you let the office know that you are on the premises. If you need to see me or a member of staff, please make an appointment at the office

The staff and Governors are wholly opposed to racism and discrimination. We endeavour, within our curriculum, to plan themes and activities that make the children aware that we live in a multicultural society. Our aim is to help the children understand the similarities and differences that exist between different communities and to learn to respect and appreciate the richness that each community brings to our society. We endeavour to ensure that all children have equal opportunities in all aspects of school life.
Religious Education & Collective Worship
Religious Education is an essential part of every pupil's education entitlement, which extends his or her understanding of the world in which we live.
Children learn about a variety of religions and the attitudes and values of different communities and faiths. They are encouraged to explore their feelings, attitudes and values as individuals and as members of the local community and the wider world.
We follow the Leicestershire syllabus for Religious Education.
An act of collective worship will take place every day. It will not offend any faith groups but will encourage values shared or held in common by Christians and others. It will bring the children together and share things of worth to the school as a community.
The act of collective worship will focus on the sharing of common experiences in which all children can take part. These experiences will reflect the traditions of Christian belief. They will represent human values to which all faith communities may take part.
The act of collective worship will promote dialogue, tolerance, and respect for the rights of others to hold beliefs different from ones own.
If you feel that your child needs to be excused from attendance at collective worship or religious education please discuss your concerns with the head teacher.
